A debug menu is a user interface implemented in a video game that allows the user to view and/or manipulate the program's internal state for the purpose of debugging. Debug menus are used during software development for ease of testing and are usually made inaccessible or otherwise hidden from the end user. They are often of interest to video game players as they can be used to cheat, access unused content, or change the game configuration beyond what is normally allowed.
Rhythm Tengoku
Rhythm Tengoku and Rhythm Tengoku Taikenhan contain a debug menu known as the Sequence Test (シーケンス テスト?, Shīkensu Tesuto), which allows the user to access virtually every part of the game, including some sequences which go unused. Despite this, there are still unused sequences which are not accessable through Sequence Test. The sequences are generally in reverse order to how they are stored in the rom.
Completing a Rhythm Game or pausing and quitting returns to the Sequence Test menu rather than continuing to the epilogue or Game Select. Pressing Select to exit out of Drum Lessons or Toys leads to an unused version of the results screen, which crashes upon attempting to show a comment. This screen can be accessed directly from this menu as "R-IQ (Result 2)".
Various sequences related to Rhythm Tengoku's menus, title screen, etc. are prefixed with "R-IQ", an early name for the game. Oddly, "R-IQ (Counselor)" appears twice.
