Blue Birds (ブルーバーズ^?, Burūbāzu) is the 3rd Rhythm Game of the second stage (8th overall) in Rhythm Heaven and the 2nd of Songbird Land (24th overall) in Rhythm Heaven Megamix.

The arrange version, Blue Birds 2, appears in the eight stage of Rhythm Heaven.

Gameplay

In this game, the player controls a member of The Blue Birds, following orders from Captain Blue Bird. The objective of this game is to remain in sync with the other two birds. The captain has two commands:

Peck your beak! (つっつき^?, tsuttsuki) calls for the birds to peck three times in quick succession.
Stretch out your neck! (ふんぞり^?, funzori) asks them to peck into the ground for a bit before stretching out both their necks and their wings.

Timing Display

Perfect!/Ace!: The player pecks or stretches in sync with the others. While pecking, a hit spark with stars appears. After a stretch, the captain blushes while stretching out his own wings.
Early!/Late!: The player pecks out of sync, causing less impressive hit sparks to fly out, a "doink" sound to be heard, and a sweat drop to form. While stretching, the player's neck gets a cramp. The captain gets angry and huffs. In the international version of Rhythm Heaven, the animation for mistiming a stretch instead has the bird pose awkwardly.
Miss...: The player either does nothing, or pecks when they're not supposed to, causing less impressive hit sparks to fly out, a "doink" sound to be heard, and a sweat drop to form. While stretching, they either do nothing or stretch when they're not supposed to. The captain gets angry and huffs.

This game is similar to Marching Orders from Rhythm Tengoku, in that the player is part of a group that takes orders from a captain who gets angry when they mess up, and that the player's character keeps a diary detailing events from the game.
In the middle of the game, Captain Blue Bird slides out of the player's view, and flashbacks are shown above the birds. While the game itself doesn't elaborate on them, the Blue Bird Diary serves to explain them.
- In Rhythm Heaven, this sequence ends with "To be continued." on screen. This is changed to "Fin." in Rhythm Heaven Megamix as Blue Birds 2 does not appear in that game.
In Rhythm Heaven, Captain Blue Bird has a yellow music note on his hat, but this detail is missing in the flashbacks during the game and on the Try Again epilogue, and is absent in Rhythm Heaven Megamix as a whole.
This game's music can be played in Hi-Hat, where it is known as "Hi-Hat (Bluebirds)".
The song for this game appears in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Miiverse stage and in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where it can play on Summit, Hannenbow, Balloon Fight, Living Room, Find Mii, Tomodachi Life, Pictochat 2, Duck Hunt, Wrecking Crew, Pilotwings and Wuhu Island, i.e., stages in the "Other" category. This version loops to the beginning when it ends.
