Early Builds

The song for this game was written with the idea of a shooting game in mind[1].

During development, this game was known as Oyatsu (おやつ?, Snack), as the player was eating candy snacks, which was replaced with manju in the final game (referred to as "dumplings" in the English version)[2][3][4].

Most sprites of the Munchy Monk have an extra sprite to render the mustache, which remain offscreen. Presumably this second sprite is needed for the turn at the end of Munchy Monk 2, and is required to exist in all other animations, even if it goes unseen.

The Munchy Monk's sprite is a little larger than what is visible onscreen, with the monk's eyebrow and ear not being visible. In Remix 4, this also includes orange hair.

The girl is capable of giving any arbitrary number of food, ranging from the integer limits of -2'147'483'648 to 2'147'483'647 (inclusive). Any negative amount, as well as 0, has the girl simply give nothing[5], using 1 has the girl give an egg, and using any other number has the girl give that many peas. The voice cue matches that of giving 13 peas for any values besides the used 5 and 9 peas. A total of 47 peas is the maximum that can be safely used, as the game crashes if one attempts to give the monk more than that[6].

Unused Content

There are unused animations, using early designs for the mustauche that the Munchy Monk grows during the game, which match the slimmer design it has in Rhythm Heaven.

There is an animation referenced for this game, "face_turn", which does not appear in the game's .bccad file. It is possible to call this animation in-game, but as it doesn't exist normally, the game defaults to playing "face_beat" instead. This animation is a leftover from the end of Munchy Monk 2 in Rhythm Heaven, where the Munchy Monk turns to face the player. There is no second mustache sprite, as it was presumably repurposed for the eyebrows.

Young Cricket, who appears during the Wario...Where? version of the game replacing the monkey in a cloud from Final Remix, has additional functionality to move the cloud vertically. In both instances, it only ever moves horizontally.

"自分でつくっていてこういうのもナンですけどと、DS版では最高にお気に入りの曲です。本当はシューティングっぽいゲームになるのかなと思って、曲をつくったんですけと、どうしてまんじゅうをもってきたのか、よくわからんのです(笑)。まんじゅうが口に入ったときは、めちゃくちゃ気持ちいいですけどね。"(I know it's strange for me to say this, but this is my favorite song for the DS version. I made the song thinking that the game would be like a shooting game, but I'm not sure why I chose to use manjū. So you were eating candy snacks, not manju, but before I knew it, it had become "Shugyo" (laughs). 3. "そして、そのボーナストラックに入っている『しゅぎょうのテーマ』は、ブックレットにも書いているとおり、元は『おやつ』というタイトルだったんですよね。制作段階のゲームでは、“まんじゅう”ではなく、“おやつ”を食べていたんですね。任天堂制作スタッフもまんじゅう”を食べることが、なぜ『しゅぎょう』かは、なぞ?のようです。" (The bonus track "Shugyo no Theme" (Training Theme) was originally titled "Oyatsu" (snack), as mentioned in the booklet. In the production stage of the game, you were eating "snacks" instead of "manju". Even the Nintendo production staff was puzzled as to why eating manju is also considered "training".) ~ 祝!100万本突破!(スタッフからのコメント) | つんく♂オフィシャルブログ 「つんブロ♂芸能コース」Powered by Ameba (Congratulations!
