Early Builds
Rhythm Datsumo was originally going to be about pulling out hairs off an old man's head, with the graphics using a photo of a development staff member's face. To express the complex psychology of it feeling good to pull out hairs cleanly despite it hurting, Masami Yone[1] gave the game an Arabian-style theme[2]. Later on, as the idea of pulling hairs off the head "wasn't suitable for everyone", it was changed to the beard instead[3]. Towards the end of development, the developers found the realistic face to be a little too gross[4], so it was replaced by an onion design inspired by the Arabian music and the shape of a mosque[5].

Version 00, 01 and 02 all use the same graphics, but start off with a different vegetable. Version 03, 04 and 05 follow the same pattern, with the alternate color palette used in Rhythm Datsumo 2. While the first three all get used in Remix 8, the last two are never used in the game.
Revisional Differences
The turnip had its color changed from pink to brown in the arcade version of Rhythm Tengoku, while in Rhythm Heaven Megamix, it is entirely replaced with the potato.

Early Builds
In the Nintendo Direct 2015.1.14 build of Rhythm Heaven Megamix, the background in Rhythm Tweezers 2 was green with bright circles[6]. In the final build, the green color was moved to the short version of Rhythm Tweezers, and the circles were removed. These circles still exist in the game however, but are colored the same as the background, rendering them invisible. The ones in the short version of Rhythm Tweezers are replaced with squares, which are also colored the same as the background.

The onions and potatoes have tops to their sprites which go offscreen. The light bulbs in Machine Remix retain the same top as the onions they are based on, which is also offscreen.
There are sprites of a shaver of some kind, as well as a carrot and some kind of cone.
A sign reading ひ♥み♥っ (Secret♥?) which remains offscreen. Through modding, this can be made to hide the hairs behind the sign. There also two variations reading ふふっ (Huhu?), hiding only the right side, and うふっ (Uhu?), hiding only the left side. This is functionally identical to the みせてあげない♥ (No Peeking♥?) sign found in Remix 8 from Rhythm Tengoku, although the left half and right half variants are new.
