Ninja Bodyguard |
An enemy is attacking your lord! Block the arrows with your sword-- and maybe next time bring a shield! |
Rhythm Heaven Megamix |
Ninja Bodyguard (忍者?, Ninja) is the 2nd Rhythm Game of Stage 5 (26th overall) in Rhythm Tengoku and the 1st of Star Land (63rd overall) in Rhythm Heaven Megamix.
The arrange version, Ninja no Shison, appears in Technician in Rhythm Tengoku.
Gameplay
This game has the player control a Ninja who protects his Lord from an enemy onslaught shooting arrows. The player must swing the sword back and forth following the enemy's pattern to slice the arrows.
In Rhythm Tengoku, rather than a Practice, the game has an opening cutscene. It begins with an enemy Ninja shooting an arrow, cuts to a shot of the arrow flying through the air from the enemy's castle to the Lord's castle through the night sky, then cuts to the Lord taking a walk, interrupted as the arrow sticks itself in the wall in front of him. As he turns around in confusion, the Ninja drops in to protect him from further arrows. This cutscene can be skipped the same way as a Practice. Rhythm Tengoku (Arcade) compensates for the lack of a Practice with a "How to Play" demonstration prior to the opening cutscene.
In Rhythm Heaven Megamix, the game is given a proper Practice session, in which the arrows are shot by allied Ninjas at a wooden dummy with a henohenomoheji drawn on it, representing the Lord. Once Practice is complete, the Ninja jumps into the air, followed by a fade transition into the opening cutscene. Skipping the Practice also skips the cutscene.

Trivia
- This is the only Rhythm Game in the entire series to have a cutscene.
- During the opening cutscene, a unique scene showing the arrow flying between the two castles is shown. The castles look identical aside from the horn-like protrusions on the roof which vary in color, the enemy's being red and the Lord's being yellow. For some reason, they are both red in the arcade version.
- During this scene, one can also see what might be Mount Fuji in the background.
- This game and Ninja no Shison are the only games to have their controls changed in the arcade version.
- A lot of the visual design of this game was reused in Dog Ninja in Rhythm Heaven, such as similar looking towers to the ones in the cutscene, and a similar prologue: A big yellow moon with grass in foreground, in a dark blue sky.
