Hairold (チョキル?, Chokiru) is a character encountered in Barbershop Land and Barbershop Tower in Rhythm Heaven Megamix.
Description
Hairold is a barber who wears a big, red hat, a pink shirt with scissors on it, red pants and white shoes. His hair covers his eyes, and he has a particularly toothy grin. He introduces himself as the master of the dual-wield scissors, and is very passionate about styling hair[1]. Despite having three black belts in hair, he has never heard of a heavenly cut[2], and does not believe that Heaven World exists[3].
Story
After Tibby and the player pass the Gatekeeper Trio's trials at The Second Gate, they gain entry to Barbershop Land. Here they meet Hairold, whose barbershop has lost its flow, and customers along with it. Because of this, Hairold has had to eat his own hair, and cover his head with a hat[4]. To help him, they must clear four Rhythm Games. After clearing them, Hairold is back in business, and unlocks the door to Songbird Land. Here he demonstrates his playstyle in rock-paper-scissors, believing that with his renewed barbershop, he will finally be able to win at the game[5].
After Barbershop Land has been cleared, Hairold may visit the Café as a customer, where the player can talk to him. He mentions that he owns a lot of bonsai trees, which he loves to snip[6]. He reflects on how he always loses at rock-paper-scissors[7], and talks about his excitement for the Hairnament, a haircutting tournament for stylists from all over. Despite his readiness, it turns out the tournament happened the day before[8]. He talks about how he takes care of his scissors as they are precious to him[9]. He shares a story in which he dropped his scissors in a pond, and a bearded man popped up, asking him he dropped a pair of shiny, golden scissors. Hairold lies and claims he did, and the bearded man disappeared, requiring Hairold to purchase a new pair of scissors[10]. He mentions a nightmare he had in which his scissors turned into a clothespin[11], and an occasion where Rupert came in for a trim, but Hairold couldn't do anything as Rupert does not have hair. Rupert was ultimately disappointed[12]. Hairold has a TV in the barbershop, and sometimes makes mistakes while watching[13]. An out-of-town stylist who is just starting her career sent a letter challenging Hairold to a duel. He isn't worried about losing to her, but is worried about the game of rock-paper-scissors deciding the winner in the event of a tie[14]. He mentions his hat has a chin strap to keep it from floating away, and his impressions of Dieter wearing a car on his head, which he at first mistook for him being run over[15].
Later on, after Tibby and the player clear Lush Tower, Tibby tries to use its power to return to Heaven World, but it is not enough. Trey informs him that they need a rainbow of power for that, after which the six towers appear, one of them being Barbershop Tower. Here, the player and Tibby encounter Hairold once again, who tells them that his tribe has been proud of their stylish tower, but have been slacking off on the maintenance, and as such it has lost its flow and stylish locks. To restore it, the player and Tibby need to clear the five Rhythm Games within[16]. Upon doing so, Hairold awakens the tower's secret power, which helps create the rainbow needed to reach Heaven World[17].
Hairold appears in Rhythm Tengoku The Best Plus Comic, first in Give it to me!, where Shep is looking for ingredients and mistakes Hairold for a red bell pepper, and in 36ムラサキの女の人 (Purple Woman), where he wonders along with Eglantine what Shep and Rupert are talking about.

Trivia
- The story Hairold shares where he dropped his scissors into a pond and was offered a pair of shiny, gold scissors by a bearded man is a reference to the fable The Honest Woodcutter, in which a woodcutter accidentally drops his axe into a river, and is asked by the god Hermes if he had dropped a golden axe. The woodcutter is honest, saying that is not his axe, and is then offerred a silver one. The woodcutter denies it again, and is granted all three axes for his honesty. His envious neighbor later tries the same trick, claiming the golden axe as his own, and is left with no axe as punishment for his dishonesty, which is also what happened to Hairold.
