Rhythm Heaven Megamix |
Shoot-'em-up 2 (かえってきた シューティング?, Kaettekita Shooting), also known as Shoot-'Em-Up (シューティング?, Shooting) in Rhythm Heaven, not to be confused with the game of the same name in Rhythm Heaven, is the 7th Rhythm Game in Rhythm Heaven and the 44th in Rhythm Heaven Megamix. The player controls the Blastronaut in a spaceship who is on an important mission to stop the alien enemies from invading Earth. It's the normal variant of Shoot-'em-up in Rhythm Heaven Megamix. In Rhythm Heaven, it is also available as an Endless Game.
Gameplay
This game is played in first person view from the spaceship. A varying number of aliens will appear on the screen one by one in groups. All aliens have appeared when the music reaches the end of its chorus. The player must then repeat the number and time they appeared, relying on the rhythm of the music. If a beat is missed, that alien will escape.

Endless Game
This game is also present as an Endless Game, unlocked after earning 7 Medals. Gameplay is about the same as the non-endless version, but differences appear:
- The player has a life bar which is depleted with every miss. If the player is hit when the bar is empty, the game will be over. The life bar will gradually refill after being depleted any amount.
- The player receives points for every successful shot in a pattern, going from 100, 200, 500 and 1000. Defeating every enemy in a wave will award the player a "PERFECT BONUS" of 1000 points.
- The Shoot-'Em-Up Radio Lady doesn't appear between waves, instead she congratulates the player for reaching certain scores. Reaching the end of a wave instead causes a warp effect, which changes the background. Notably, the last background is the same as in Shoot-'Em-Up 2, after which the set of backgrounds repeat, but with a different color.
- Once the player has reached the end of the non-endless game, the last three enemies do not appear. Instead, it goes to the last two waves of Shoot-'Em-Up 2, after which the waves are randomized. The enemies also change shape for the rest of the game, which have stricter timing. Internally, they are known as "enemy_mini".
- After clearing 20 waves, the music becomes quieter. After clearing 30 waves, it becomes muted completely.
Trivia
- The green aliens that are seen in the background during the Endless version of the game are the Space Umpires from Spaceball without their spaceships.
- In Megamix, the background in the epilogue screens from this game is taken straight from Wario Man's stage from WarioWare: Twisted released for the Game Boy Advance.
- The screen the lady appears on in Rhythm Heaven Megamix appears to resemble a Wii U Gamepad.
- In Rhythm Heaven Megamix, the aliens are fully grey with a green glow around them and part of the player's spaceship is green, thus making the game look more like the DS version of Shoot-'Em-Up 2.
- This is one of the few games to keep the same controls for tapping from Rhythm Heaven to Rhythm Heaven Megamix, the others being Munchy Monk, Freeze Frame, Lockstep, and Fillbots.
- This is actually the game with the most variants, having three more than Tap Trial. It has 7 variants in Rhythm Heaven (if including its practice and Endless version), and has 3 more variants in Rhythm Heaven Megamix, making a total of 10 variants.
- But with graphical changes in general, Tap Trial wins, because of its appearance in Rhythm Heaven Fever.
