The objects can come into the screen from either side and be sliced when they reach the middle. They can also come in on both sides at the same time, but this doesn't change the timing, it just causes somewhat of a distraction. When a good slice is done, the object splits in half.
The player plays as the eponymous Dog Ninja, who slices things such as vegetables, tires, and cast-iron skillets. The objects come into the screen from either left or right, or both sides, and must be sliced at the precise moment.
In Rhythm Heaven Megamix, the background has been spaced out and recolored to take advantage of the Nintendo 3DS' widescreen.
During practice, Dog Ninja can be seen inside a room. In the real game, he is seen outside, with Mister Eagle appearing at the start with a sign saying "Cut everything!"

*This is one of a few games to have different rating screens of both versions.
*The towers in the background look similar to the ones used in Ninja Bodyguard. Both games feature a ninja of some kind that slice incoming objects.
*The towers in the background look similar to the one's used in Ninja Bodyguard.
**Additionally, the prologue to this game shares the same scenario as the one to Ninja Bodyguard: A big yellow moon with grass in the foreground with a dark blue sky.
**Which was also about slicing stuff. (In Ninja Bodyguard you slice arrows)
*Mister Eagle reappears in Super Samurai Slice 2 in Rhythm Heaven Megamix.
