Rupert (ヘビッピ?, Hebippi) is a character who appears occasionally to assist the player and Tibby on their journey during the Story Mode of Rhythm Heaven Megamix.
Description
Rupert is a small microphone-shaped snake-like creature sitting in a pink jar. He wears a red scarf. He listens in on people with the intent to help them by bringing them news and occasionally gossip[1]. He enjoys meddling in people's business and is stated to dislike frogs. The shape of his lower body inside the jar is unknown, seemingly even to Rupert himself. He is able to stretch his torso to make himself taller. The player can obtain a Mascot of Rupert, which can replace the loading icon, by playing the Stable minigame. In Rhythm Tengoku: The Best+, Rupert sometimes ends his sentences with ッピ (-ppi?).
Story
Rupert doesn't play an active role in the Story Mode of Rhythm Heaven Megamix, but he appears throughout it, interrupting Tibby and the player to inform of them of newly unlocked features, similar to the messages that would alert the player in previous games. Rupert also takes the role of letting the player skip a Rhythm Game if they fail to clear it three times in a row, which was handled by Barista in previous games. Rupert however charges the player for it[2].
Rupert's earliest appearance is either to help the player skip Karate Man if they are having trouble[3], or after clearing Fillbots, where he informs them that the Café has just been opened[4]. In both cases, he introduces himself and his role[5]. After clearing The First Gate, Rupert appears to announce that Challenge Land is open[6]. After this, Rupert will appear to announce any Perfect Campaigns that come up during the game[7], giving an explanation the first time this happens[8].
When visited at the Café, Hairold mentions an occasion in which Rupert came in for a trim, but Hairold couldn't do anything as Rupert does not have hair. Rupert was ultimately disappointed[9]
Rupert appears in Rhythm Tengoku The Best Plus Comic, with numbers 13, 14, 15 and 34 dedicated to him, being こんにちは!ヘビッピです! その1, その2, その3, その4 (Hello! I'm Rupert! Parts 1, 2, 3 and 4). In Part 1, Rupert introduces himself. He speaks about how he likes to listen in on people, and signs out. A single snail can be seen amidst the silence. Part 2 sees Rupert walking about, then he sees Eglantine. She asks him what kind of creature he is, and he says he likes to listen in on people. She then gives him her scary look, and Rupert leaves. In Part 3, Rupert poses the question of what is inside his jar. After coming up with a few ideas, he gives his best regards and leaves. In Part 4, Rupert introduces himself to Shep, who in turn seems happy to have found someone shorter than him. As he goes on about him being "short and cute", Rupert stretches his neck, making himself taller. As Shep regains his composure, Rupert returns to normal. A now more worried Shep says that he hopes Rupert will grow up as soon as possible.
In Rhythm Tengoku The Best Plus Comic 36ムラサキの女の人 (Purple Woman), Rupert asks Shep if he has seen a woman with an egg. The orange spheroid responds with frustration, saying he tried to get an egg from a purple woman, but she suddenly stared at him with her evil eyes, which traumatized him. Rupert recognizes that he met the same purple woman before. As Shep and Rupert wonder why the purple woman is so evil, Eglantine herself, along with Hairold, are wondering what the other two are talking about.
