Lockstep |
This one's all about hitting the beat, flipping it, and then nailing the backbeat. Experience both sides of the rhythm! |
Rhythm Heaven Megamix |
Lockstep (ウラオモテ?, Ura Omote) is the 2nd Rhythm Game of the sixth stage (27th overall) in Rhythm Heaven and the 2nd of Planet Land (72nd overall) in Rhythm Heaven Megamix.
The arrange version, Lockstep 2, appears in the eighth stage of Rhythm Heaven.
Gameplay
In this game, the player plays as a Stepswitcher in the center of the screen. The Stepswitchers begin stepping in beat after the cowbell clicks. The player must step consistently in this same beat until one of the Stepswitchers signals to step in offbeat to the rhythm. The rhythm will keep switching on and offbeat during the game when signaled.
To confuse the player, the screen will zoom out, showing many more Stepswitchers. When zoomed out completely, the Stepswitchers form the image of what appears to be Johann Sebastian Bach, a famous German composer of the 1700's, although the real person lacked the curly mustache seen in the game.
Controls
- Ⓐ/Tap: March
Timing Display
- Perfect!/Ace!?: The player marches correctly.
- Early!/Late!?: The player marches slightly off, resulting in a "tick" sound. In Rhythm Heaven only, this does not cause the player to fail a Perfect Campaign.
- Miss...?: The player steps on the wrong beat (or not at all) and gets smacked by the Stepswitcher next to them.

It's creepy the way the painting's eyes seem to follow you wherever you go, but it's even creepier when you mess up your rhythm and the painting laughs at you. Also, it's a bit embarrassing. |
Skill Star
The Skill Star appears when switching back to the beat near the end of the game.

Trivia
- In Rhythm Heaven, the game stops tracking the player's performance during the last ten steps, meaning it does not impact the player's score or Perfect Campaign. This is no longer true in Rhythm Heaven Megamix, however.
- The Stepswitchers make a cameo in Cheer Readers.
- This is one of the few games to keep the same controls from Rhythm Heaven to Rhythm Heaven Megamix in Simple Tap mode, alongside Fillbots 2. Excluding the ability to flick despite not needing to, Shoot-'em-up 2, Freeze Frame and Munchy Monk can also be included.
