Blue Birds (ブルーバーズ burūbāzu) is the 8th rhythm game in Rhythm Heaven and the 24th game in Rhythm Heaven Megamix. In this game, the player controls a member of the Blue Birds, following orders from Captain Blue Bird, a duck. A sequel is later unlocked in Rhythm Heaven called Blue Birds 2.
Blue Birds is the 3rd Rhythm Game of the second stage (8th overall) in Rhythm Heaven and the 2nd of Songbird Land (24th overall) in Rhythm Heaven Megamix.
The arrange version, Blue Birds 2, appears in the eight stage of Rhythm Heaven.
The objective of this game is to remain in sync with the other two birds when Captain Blue Bird says "peck your beak" or "stretch out your neck!" Tap the stylus to make the rightmost blue bird peck his beak to the ground together with the other two blue birds. Hold the stylus to make him hold his beak to the ground, and then flick the stylus to stretch up his neck along with the other two. When Captain Blue Bird slides out of the player's view, flashbacks can be seen above the blue birds, showing the three members undergoing training, among other things.
In this game, the player controls a member of The Blue Birds, following orders from Captain Blue Bird. The objective of this game is to remain in sync with the other two birds. The captain has two commands:
*Peck your beak! calls for the birds to peck three times in quick succession.
*Stretch out your neck! asks them to peck into the ground for a bit before stretching out both their necks and their wings.
|just=The player pecks or stretches in sync with the others. While pecking, a hit spark with stars appears. After a stretch, the captain blushes while stretching out his own wings.
*Tap: Peck
|miss=The player pecks out of sync, causing less impressive hit sparks to fly out, a "doink" sound to be heard, and a sweat drop to form. While stretching, the player's neck gets a cramp. The captain gets angry and huffs. In the international version of Rhythm Heaven, the animation for mistiming a stretch instead has the bird pose awkwardly.
*Hold and release stylus: Stretch neck
|through=The player either does nothing, or pecks when they're not supposed to, causing less impressive hit sparks to fly out, a "doink" sound to be heard, and a sweat drop to form. While stretching, they either do nothing or stretch when they're not supposed to. The captain gets angry and huffs.}}

Trivia
Trivia
*Missing any of the last three "Stretch out your neck!" cues will cost the player the Superb.
*This game is similar to Marching Orders from Rhythm Tengoku, in that the player is part of a group that takes orders from a captain who gets angry when they mess up, and that the player's character keeps a diary detailing events from the game.
**Missing all three of them will give the player a Try Again.
*In the middle of the game, Captain Blue Bird slides out of the player's view, and flashbacks are shown above the birds. While the game itself doesn't elaborate on them, the Blue Bird Diary serves to explain them.
*This game has "Fin." in Rhythm Heaven Megamix instead of "To be continued." like in Rhythm Heaven at the end of the game because the sequel does not appear in Rhythm Heaven Megamix.
**In Rhythm Heaven, this sequence ends with "To be continued." on screen. This is changed to "Fin." in Rhythm Heaven Megamix as Blue Birds 2 does not appear in that game.
**Ironically in Samurai Slice, it still says "To be continued..." despite its sequel not appearing either.
*In Rhythm Heaven, Captain Blue Bird has a yellow music note on his hat, but this detail is missing in the flashbacks during the game and on the Try Again epilogue, and is absent in Rhythm Heaven Megamix as a whole.
*Blue Birds is one of the only two games whose songs are imported to Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo 3DS/Wii U in the Miiverse stage, the other being Monkey Watch from Rhythm Heaven Fever.
*This game's music can be played in Hi-Hat, where it is known as "Hi-Hat (Bluebirds)".
*The miss animation for when the Blue Bird stretches his neck too late or early was redrawn for the international versions for unknown reasons. All versions of Rhythm Heaven Megamix use the original Japanese animation.
*The song for this game appears in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Miiverse stage and in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where it can play on the stages in the "Other" category, as well as Battlefield, Small Battlefield, Big Battlefield and Final Destination since the 8.1.0 update. This version loops to the beginning when it ends.
**This was also done for Remix 2 and its sequel.
