The objective of this game is to be in sync with the other two birds when the Captain says "peck your beak" or "stretch out your neck!" Tap the stylus to make the right blue bird peck his beak to the ground together with the other two blue birds. Hold the stylus to make him hold his beak to the ground, and then release the stylus to stretch up his neck along with the other two. During the middle and near the end of the song, flashbacks can be seen above the blue birds, showing the three members undergoing training, among other things.

Trivia
*This is the first game from DS version that ended with "The End" instead of "To be continued..." at the end of the minigame in the Megamix version. The original has one, but since the sequel does not appear in Megamix, the prequel is presented.
*This game is similar to Marching Orders from Rhythm Tengoku, in that the player is part of a group that takes orders from a captain who gets angry when they mess up, and that the player's character keeps a diary detailing events from the game.
**Ironically in Samurai Slice, it still says "To be continued...", it may be a prequel to Super Samurai Slice.
*In the middle of the game, Captain Blue Bird slides out of the player's view, and flashbacks are shown above the birds. While the game itself doesn't elaborate on them, the Blue Bird Diary serves to explain them.
*If you miss the last three cues of "Stretch out your neck!", you will get a Try Again rating.
**In Rhythm Heaven, this sequence ends with "To be continued." on screen. This is changed to "Fin." in Rhythm Heaven Megamix as Blue Birds 2 does not appear in that game.
*Blue Birds is one of the only two games whose songs are imported to Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo 3DS/Wii U in the Miiverse stage, the other being Monkey Watch from Rhythm Heaven Fever.
*In Rhythm Heaven, Captain Blue Bird has a yellow music note on his hat, but this detail is missing in the flashbacks during the game and on the Try Again epilogue, and is absent in Rhythm Heaven Megamix as a whole.
*This game's music can be played in Hi-Hat, where it is known as "Hi-Hat (Bluebirds)".
