The male scientist student gets a flask tossed to him. He will shake the flask a number of times and toss it to the female student (the character played in the game). The flask must then be shaken the same number of times he shook it by relying on the tone of rhythm in the game. The player then must toss the flask to the other student in the lab. If the flask was shaken correctly and in time, all of the hearts made by both students will be combined and fall into the white bag.

Love Lab (恋の実験室?, Koi no Jikken-Shitsu) is the 4th Rhythm Game of the fourth stage (19th overall) in Rhythm Heaven.

Gameplay

Screenshot DS Love Lab.png

This game concerns the Research Scientists of Love Lab who are studying the science of love in the lab. The boy receives a flask from off-screen, which he grabs, causing a blue heart to appear. He then tosses it over to the girl (controlled by the player), who must grab the flask, causing a red heart to appear, and toss it over to the Mysterious Lab Tech in rhythm, who takes the flask away. If done correctly, the hearts connect into pink hearts, which are promptly collected in a bag. Sometimes, the boy shakes the flask, making more hearts appear, before throwing it. The player needs to shake in the same rhythm.

Controls

  • Tap (Hold): Catch
  • Tap (Release): Drop flask
  • Flick: Throw
  • Slide: Shake

Timing Display

  • Perfect!/Ace!?: The flask is successfully caught, shaken and thrown. The girl quickly glances at the boy with a blush upon throwing. The hearts combine and fall into the white bag.
  • Early!/Late!?: Grabbing the flask too early or too late results in a heart either not coming out or floating away. If throwing the flask too early or late, it causes the hearts to float away even if shaken correctly.[citation needed]
  • Miss...?: The flask isn't grabbed or tossed, instead falling onto the table, shattering. Shaking off the beat does not make any hearts appear. If the player keeps holding the flask when they should throw it, any hearts that were emitted continue floating off-screen. Any unconnected hearts simply disappear in a skull-like vapor.

Oguro: Out of all the games in the DS version, this is my favorite. When the actual game begins, the school building suddenly turns to dusk, and I can't help but feel my heart pounding.

Tsunku♂: This game is really bad (laughs). I shake the flask saying "shukoshuko, hu" (laughs). The background music used in this game is actually Morning Musume. It's a song I kept in stock, thinking that I'd like them to sing it someday. It was a half-finished song, but the melody was really good, and I was going to add the lyrics. Yone: The person receiving the flask is a squirrel character. You can see his face in the ending, but I didn't know until I saw that (laughs).

Trivia

  • This game takes place in the daytime during the practice and Remix 10, and at sunset during the real game.
  • During Practice, the characters oddly do not move to the music.
