Flock Step |
So many birds migrating together! Of course, to avoid stepping on each others' toes, they'll need rhythm... |
Rhythm Heaven Megamix |
Flock Step (鳥の大群?, Tori no Taigun) is the 24th minigame in Rhythm Heaven Fever and the 25th minigame in Rhythm Heaven Megamix. It features a large flock of migrating Huebirds of Happiness stepping in rhythm.
Gameplay
The player controls a pink Huebird located in the center of the screen as it has to march in step along with the other Huebirds. When one of the birds squawks, this is a cue for all the Huebirds to squat and jump in time with each other.
Controls
Rhythm Heaven Fever
- Ⓐ: March
- Ⓐ+Ⓑ (Hold): Squat
- Ⓐ+Ⓑ (Release): Jump
Rhythm Heaven Megamix
- Ⓐ/Tap: March
- Ⓑ (Hold)/Tap (Hold): Squat
- Ⓑ (Release)/Tap (Release): Jump
Timing Display
- Perfect!/Ace!: The Huebird will step and jump in time with the others.
- Early!/Late!: The Huebird will go offbeat while stepping or jumping depending on if the player was too early or late.
- Miss...: The Huebird bumps into the bird in front of or behind him, looking surprised while the other bird looks annoyed. This may switch the footing pattern if the player continues without anymore breaks.

Trivia
- The name "Flock Step" is a possible reference to Rhythm Heaven’s Lockstep.
- Further examined, both games objective's are to step in rhythm in a group. The only difference is the offbeat part that was in Lockstep, but not in Flock Step.
- The Huebirds later appear in the Night Walk credits game, flying by in a huge flock partway through it.
- In Rhythm Heaven Fever, both this minigame and Tap Trial have the same Superb message: "It feels good to belong". However, Flock Step's Superb message has a full stop at the end while Tap Trial's has an exclamation point.
- This is one of the few games in the franchise to require player input after the music finishes. Other games like this are Remix 4 (GBA), Remix 5 (GBA), Air Batter 2, Lockstep, Fan Club 2, Lockstep 2, and Air Rally.
- According to debug notes found in the files of Rhythm Heaven Megamix, this game, Board Meeting, Fork Lifter, Double Date, Cheer Readers and Packing Pests would have short variants added in that game, but they got cut for unknown reasons.
- In Fever, when the player jumps along with the rest of the flock, the Wiimote will vibrate.
- The large sphere with a smiley face from the DS version of Rhythm Rally 2 makes a cameo during the zoom-out segment.
- Despite the sphere in Cosmic Rhythm Rally being redesigned to resemble the Cosmo Dancers in Megamix, this change was not reflected in Flock Step.
- The zoom-out might be a pun on “bird’s-eye view”.
