Early Builds
Showtime was originally named Esa (えさ?, Bait) in development as the penguins holding the ball in their mouths looked as though they were being fed, but this name was too different from the intended image of the game itself[1].
Unused Content
There are two variants of the white penguins which go unused. One is a faster pattern in a straight rhythm, while the other is a swing version of that pattern. The final one has a swingy rhythm, but has the same timing as the gray penguins[2].

The penguin holding the ball in its mouth looked like it was given food, so I called it "Bait", but I thought it was a little different from the image I had in mind, so I changed it to "Showtime".) ~ Kazuyoshi Osawa, ほぼ日刊イトイ新聞 - 樹の上の秘密基地。 (Hobo Nikkan Itoi Shinbun - A secret base on a tree.)
