"Tweet, twe-twe-tweet, tweet, squawk!"
— The Huebirds of Happiness

The Huebirds of Happiness (イロトリ鳥?, Irotori Tori), also known as The Huebirds in Beat the Beat: Rhythm Paradise, are a species of colorful birds that appear in Flock Step in Rhythm Heaven Fever and Rhythm Heaven Megamix. They migrate in giant flocks. The main color of the Huebirds is pink, but they can also come in orange, yellow, lime green, and blue.

Story

The Huebirds' migration is considened a wonderful event, and tours of the planet of the Huebirds are conducted. During one such tour, the announcer (アナウンス?, Anaunsu) attempts to warn the Huebirds to be careful and to line up properly, as they are very crowded and could get hurt otherwise. The birds tweet and squak, attempting to say that they don't understand. The announcer gets increasingly frustrated with each attempt, until the birds finally line up. The tour ends with the announcer explaing that the Huebirds are lovely creatures with their own sense of order, and have behaved this way for generations. They then announce they will look at The Blue Birds (in Minna no Rhythm Tengoku and Beat the Beat: Rhythm Paradise) or an altogether different species, the Eloquent Tapir (in Rhythm Heaven Fever), in the next tour.

Several pink Huebirds can be seek flying in Night Walk and in the background of Munchy Monk in Rhythm Heaven Fever. In Police Call, holding down on the "WXYZ" key plays their signature "Tweet, twe-twe-tweet, tweet, squawk!". Inputting the codeword "BIRDS" starts a call where a Huebird attempts to play the Tambourine with a monkey. Tibby's fall during the opening of Rhythm Heaven Megamix causes a few pink Huebirds to fly away in shock.

The Huebirds appear in Rhythm Tengoku The Best Plus Comic, first in 01同窓会 (Reunion), where a group of Huebirds join the reunion at the Café, and in 16がけっぷちの恋 (The Cliff of Love), where Mr. Chicken purchases a car from Dieter, so he can take out a lady Huebird on a date. As he drives her down the stone road, he breaks too late, and is in danger of falling into the water. He decides this a good chance to rescue her to get her to like him. As the car falls into the water however, the Huebird simply flies away. This Huebird is differentiated as female with a red bow on her head.

Trivia

  • Sprite 3DS Rhythm Item Colorful Feathers.png
The colorful feathers of the Huebirds are said to make a person irresistible to anyone they talk to if they collect one of each color. This is proven true by the characters in the game's Rhythm Item[1].
  • Their name is a pun on the "Bluebird of happiness", the symbol of a bluebird as the harbinger of happiness that is found in many cultures and may date back thousands of years. The way they are described as having "behaved the same way for generations", the irresistible effect of their feathers and the mention of the next tour being about The Blue Birds (in Minna no Rhythm Tengoku and Beat the Beat: Rhythm Paradise) may all be references to this.
  • The Huebirds make a cameo appearance in Warioware Gold, where they appear in a math book of 9-Volt's intro stage.
