  • Captain Tuck and the Flippers (隊長とコロコロたんけん隊?, Taichō to Korokoro Tanken-tai) are an expedition team in Flipper-Flop in Rhythm Heaven Fever and Rhythm Heaven Megamix.

    Story

One of the Flippers keeps an Expedition Journal, detailing their journey through Antarctica[1][2][3][4][5][6].

On April 16, the expedition team is heading towards an unknown destination. However, the Flipper feels they are making no progress, as if they're going around in circles. They are behind schedule by several hours, and the Flipper is concerned they might not make it. The captain is as icy-faced as ever, not showing any worry he may have, nor giving any orders.

On April 20, the team runs into a major storm, hindering their movement and visibility. The team employ their one-flipper-roll strategy, which the Flipper doubts is going to help, but the captain only responded with "Good joooob! Nice!" to this concern. The Flipper chooses to trust the captain.

One April 21, the one-flipper-roll strategy is deemed a failure, as the team makes no headway and lost all strength and motivation. The Flipper suggests to the captain to try the ten-flipper-roll strategy. Captain Tuck encourages them with his strongest "Yes! Good job!" The Flipper again chooses to trust the captain.

One April 22, the Flipper feels as though the bright sun is mocking the team's progress. They are all left dizzy and disoriented by the ten-flipper-roll strategy. The Flipper shouts for help from the captain, its voice echoing across the frigid tundra. The captain simply responds with "That's it!". Despite initial doubt, the Flipper chooses to trust the captain once more.

Captain Tuck makes borscht for the team, made from chunks of meat, cubed veggies, and diced love in every bite. This keeps the team warm and satisfied, and ready for expeditioning[7]. After training drills, Captain Tuck brews a cup of coffee in his special mug, which has a picture of a seal on it. He never puts sugar in it, as he says the picture is sweet enough for him[8].

The Flippers appear in Remix 5's prehistoric setting with an orange color, with their captain offscreen. In the Two Player version of Flipper-Flop, there is one cyan Flipper for Player 1 and an orange one for Player 2 in addition to the other seals. Inputting the code word MATCH into Police Call calls up a match, during which Wrestler poses and flexes on the opponent, all the while Captain Tuck compliments his actions. The call ends with Tuck saying "That's it!", with Wrestler reacting with a confused grunt. In Barbershop Remix, Captain Tuck appears to work as a barber, with the Flippers sporting mustaches. The group also appears in Rhythm Tengoku The Best Plus Comic 11テビリとバーバーショップ (Tibby and Barbershop), where Tibby is getting a haircut at the barbershop. He falls asleep as Captain Tuck cuts his hair, but he overdoes it. Embarrassed, the barber moves away, as the seal that was sitting behind them climbs onto Tibby's head to hide the mistake.

    Trivia

    • Captain Tuck and the Flippers have a lot in common with Sarge and the Squadmates and The Blue Birds from previous games. For instance, Captain Tuck's face resembles that of the Sarge, and one of the Flippers keeps an Expedition Journal, similar to the Marcher Activity Log and Blue Bird Diary, down to the same dates.
    • The Flippers, along with The Wandering Samurai, have printed towels which were purchasable from Club Nintendo Japan in December 2012.
    • Captain Tuck's appearance in the Barbershop Remix is the only time he is seen not wearing a hood.
    • The information given in the Rhythm Items is generally consistent across languages, but some alter certain details. For example, the Japanese and Korean versions state the latte Captain Tuck brews always contains sugar and milk, making it sweet. In all other versions, he never adds sugar, because the picture on the mug is all the sweetness he needs[9].
