Backstory

The Space Umpire sits in the UFO in the back during Spaceball. He's the referee, and because he only deals with individual games, no one objects to his decisions. He's always seen smiling[1]. In Lush Remix, he introduces the player to the Remix, and is later hit by the batter at the end.

The Space Umpire makes a lot of cameo appearances in the series. In the Endless Game Shoot-'Em-Up, several aliens appear during one set of waves in the background. In Remix 9, he appears in the epilogues. On the Try Again one, several UFOs with Space Umpires appear chasing Play-Yan's ship away, while in the Superb epilogue, a single one watches Play-Yan "make first contact fun" with the Alien Bunnies from afar. In Wake-Up Caller, the Space Umpire can occasionally be seen through the window. In First Contact, the alien's UFO can be seen floating in space in the OK epilogue. In Charging Chicken he appears in the background when the player gets really far[citation needed].
