The Wandering Samurai

The Wandering Samurai (Samurai Steve in PAL regions) is a recurring character in the franchise, and appears in all four games in the series, much like Karate Joe and Widget.

Rhythm Tengoku

The Wandering Samurai first appeared in Rhythm Tengoku in the rhythm game Iai Giri. Here, he is tasked with slicing monsters who are terrorizing a village.

Rhythm Heaven

In Rhythm Heaven, our slicing samurai returned, but he only appeared in the endless game Samurai Slice. In this one, he must slice watermelons, fish and demons to feed the children in the village.

Rhythm Heaven Fever

In Rhythm Heaven Fever, the samurai returns in Samurai Slice. Here, he wanders through a village, and stumbles upon a couple of kids, whose pinwheel was stolen by demons. In the name of justice, the samurai follows the demons to a cliff, where he proceeds to slice them all until getting the pinwheel back. Later in Samurai Slice 2, a similar story happens as the samurai slices more demons to return a stolen bunny to a man in the city.

Rhythm Heaven Megamix

In Rhythm Heaven Megamix, The Wandering Samurai appears in the game Super Samurai Slice. This time, the samurai has wandered into a village, where the demons have kidnapped a lady walking through the streets. He proceeds to slice every demon in his path to rescue her.

• The Wandering Samurai makes a cameo appearance in Game & Wario. He appears during a microgame in Gamer mode where he is slicing a fish.

  The Wandering Samurai in Game & Wario
• The Wandering Samurai has appeared as a playable character in 16 different games through the series, while Karate Joe appears in 23 games (Excluding cameos).
• The Wandering Samurai and the Flippers are the two characters to have printed towels that could be bought from Club Nintendo Japan in December 2012.
• His name, Koden Rikkoku, derives from an anagram of Rhythm Tengoku.
• The Korean versions feature the Wandering Samurai in traditional Korean clothing instead of Japanese.
• The Wandering Samurai makes a cameo during Kat & Ana's preview for WarioWare Gold.
• The Wandering Samurai makes a minor appearance as a spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate where he can be enhanced into his design from Samurai Slice 2 at level 99.
