Rhythm Tengoku
During Night Walk, every time Play-Yan successfully makes a flower grow or other object appear, one of the stars in the background grows. If all of the stars are at their max size at the end of the game, the final box releases a small star which Play-Yan grabs on to. In the OK and Superb epilogues, Play-Yan is seen making friends with the stars. In Night Walk 2, Play-Yan must avoid Biribiriuo, which float above specific boxes. If he jumps from a box with one right over it, he'll get shocked by the fish and fall down.
After perfecting Night Walk 2 in Rhythm Tengoku, you unlock an email called "Night Walk Riddle." The email tells the player that "the little guy in Night Walk" loves music, and has appeared in several other music related games. The writer of the email actually met Play-Yan on the street and tried to talk to him. Play-Yan responded only with, "I love music!" before walking away up some stairs.

The email writer gives the player a riddle. You have to piece together the numbers to find out what his name is. The riddle goes as follows:
The music loving fellow is named...
(1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7)

Not only does piecing out the clues spell out "playyan" but it also tells the player about the easter egg in Quiz Show where pressing the buttons over 99 times breaks everything.

The only information Rhythm Heaven Megamix gives us on Play-Yan is that he has an impeccable sense of rhythm and magic flowers grow in the footsteps of his presence.

  • Play-Yan (プレイやん?, Pureiyan) is a white humanoid creature who makes friends with the Stars (星?, Hoshi) in the Rhythm Game Night Walk in Rhythm Tengoku and Rhythm Heaven Megamix.

    Story

Play-Yan is known for his love of music, and his previous works are all about it. Through connections, he was able to appear in Rhythm Tengoku as well. In his private life, he likes to listen to music and taking walks while watching the night sky. He doesn't like to talk about his work too much, but he is always cheerful and has a gentle way with words[1]. The speaker of Night Walk Information happened to meet Play-Yan in the city, who promptly said "I love music!" and disappeared up some stairs. He has an impeccable sense of rhythm and Magic Flowers grow in his footsteps when the timing is right[2][3]. Nighttime is quite soothing for him and he associates with rhythm and poetry[4].

In Night Walk 2, Play-Yan must avoid Biribiriuo (ビリビリウオ?, Biribiri Fish), which float above specific boxes. If he jumps from a box with one right over it, he'll get shocked by the fish and fall down.

The stars show up in The Dazzles with a yellow appearance, appearing when the player poses correctly during key moments in the song. In The Dazzles 2, the stars turn into sheep at their max size. Play-Yan may appear hanging on one of the stars or sheep, which is acknowledged in Supporting Cast 2, referring to him as a Hidden Character (かくれキャラ?, Kakure Kyara). Play-Yan also appears as an astronaut in the epilogue to Remix 9 in Rhythm Heaven, where he is either in deep-space trouble being chased by Space Umpires (Try Again), cruising the stars in style (OK), or making first contact fun with the Space-Rabbits (Superb). Play-Yan appears along with a star in the sky in Rhythm Tengoku Gold Comic 09 にぎやかでおだやかな夜の巻き (A lively and peaceful night by Maki). Play-Yan appears in Remix 7 in Rhythm Heaven Fever, as one of the images in the Cheer Readers sections. Play-Yan appears riding on a star during the "To Heaven World" Memory in Rhythm Heaven Megamix.
