User talk:The Eggo55/Game Rename Proposal

Sorry to revive this after 8 months but I feel this is important!

  1. Do we leave untranslated games in Japanese or with a rough translation?
    • I understand not translating games with English names already (see Toss Boys, Showtime, etc), or games where you can't really translate the name (see The Bon Odori) - but, as an example, let's at least call Mahō Tsukai "Wizard" (literal translation). Personally, using commonplace fanon names like "Wizard's Waltz" would be best, but at the very least let's remove unnecessary Japanese that muddles the meaning of the name for non-speakers.
      • I'd also like to point out some non-game stuff should get translated as well: e.g. the Bonus/Medal Corner in Tengoku being referred to as the "Omake Corner" is very "thing, Japan"-y, or "all according to keikaku"-y if you prefer. It's not even a proper name.
  2. I think it's very important to take a wiki-wide stance on overseas Megamix's game name/number retcons - specifically against it, since most of the RH community chooses to ignore them.
    • I don't think it's a good idea to use "(3DS)" or "(Megamix)", since that seems to communicate replacing a game rather than shifting everything one position to the right. I'd go with one of: "(short)", "(prequel)" (standardizing prequel/sequel as terms in the wiki), "0", "(story)", etc.
      • Keep in mind new fans will join from HS/Groove, so let's keep ambiguity to a minimum in the titles.
    • Probably unnecessarily speculative, but could be good to add a note to the beginning of the articles like "Fillbots 2 (which would be Fillbots 3 under Megamix's naming convention", or smth like that.

Overall, I do think the current article names represent a somewhat idealized representation of a very messy topic which doesn't at all align with how the majority of the community sees it.
