The game is about a [[Tap Trial Girl|girl]] who is learning to tap dance like the [[Monkey]]s. A sequel is unlocked later on in ''[[Rhythm Tengoku]]'' and ''[[Rhythm Heaven Megamix]]'' called [[Tap Trial 2]].

The [[Tap Trial Girl|girl]] (the character played in this game) dances simultaneously with the two monkeys and must follow their signals. If the monkeys let out a small cry, it signals to tap once right afterwards. If they make two noises, then it signals to tap twice quickly afterwards. If the monkey yells as all the characters raise their arms, it signals to tap three times quickly afterwards. If the monkey yelps, it signals to tap the moment the girl and monkeys have landed a jump.
