Blue Birds (ブルーバーズ?, Burūbāzu) is the 3rd Rhythm Game of the second stage (8th overall) in Rhythm Heaven and the 2nd of Songbird Land (24th overall) in Rhythm Heaven Megamix.

The arrange version, Blue Birds 2, appears in the eight stage of Rhythm Heaven.

Gameplay

In this game, the player controls a member of The Blue Birds, following orders from Captain Blue Bird. The objective of this game is to remain in sync with the other two birds. The captain has two commands: "Peck your beak!" calls for the birds to peck three times in quick succession. "Stretch out your neck!" asks them to peck into the ground for a bit before stretching out both their necks and their wings.

Trivia

  • This game is similar to Marching Orders from Rhythm Tengoku, in that the player is part of a group that takes orders from a captain who gets angry when they mess up, and that the player's character keeps a diary detailing events from the game.
  • In the middle of the game, Captain Blue Bird slides out of the player's view, and flashbacks are shown above the birds. While the game itself doesn't elaborate on them, the Blue Bird Diary serves to explain them.
    • In Rhythm Heaven, this sequence ends with "To be continued." on screen. This is changed to "Fin." in Rhythm Heaven Megamix as Blue Birds 2 does not appear in that game.
    • Interestingly, the graphics for Blue Birds in Remix 2 have the Japanese character "完" (Complete?) in it's place. It is also drawn differently to the one used in Blue Birds 2.
  • This game's music can be played in Hi-Hat, where it is known as "Hi-Hat (Bluebirds)".
  • While the captain has a yellow music note in Rhythm Heaven, it is oddly missing in Rhythm Heaven Megamix.
  • The song for this game appears in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Miiverse stage and in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where it plays on stages in the "Other" category.
  • The animation used when the player stretches too early or too late is altered in non-Japanese versions of Rhythm Heaven. The original animation is used in all versions of Rhythm Heaven Megamix.
