- His name seems to be a reference to the song "Space Oddity", created by David Bowie in 1969, more specifically the song's lyric "Ground control to Major Tom".
- His name is also an example of alliteration.
- This is one of the few characters that gets replaced in the sequel of a game and never appears again.
