  • The Moai Kids (モアイコ?, Moaiko), or simply Moai (モアイ?, Moai), are a moai couple who appear in Moai Doo-Wop in Rhythm Heaven.

    Story

The two moai who appear in the game, the male Moaio (モアイオ?, Moaio) and the female Moaiko (モアイコ?, Moaiko), are the only two of their kind living on the small island. They are familiar to the natives. During Moai Doo-Wop, it is rumored the two are expecting a tiny bundle of moai joy (子モアイ?, Ko Moai), which ends up being born as shown in the Superb epilogue[2][3].

A little known fact is that when no one is watching, the moai love to sing. Their language was dubbed "Moai Song". Moai repeat a phrase verbatim to signal agreement. Even a slight change expresses disagreement to the original singer, which has led to a messy ending of many moai friendships. In order to maintain good relationships, they strive to listen closely to their partner. Despite looking relaxed, they are actually intently focused on listening closely before replying[4].

The Moai Bird (モアイの鳥?, Moai no Tori), which belongs to the perchandpoop family of finches, can be seen perching on and around the Moai Kids. This bird has a curious reaction to music. Their sensitive ears detect irregularities in music which result in other kinds of irregularities in the birds themselves[5].

In Tunnel, one of the locations visited is a field full of moai. The Moai Kids can also be seen in the audience in Battle of the Bands, and an image of them appears in Cheer Readers 2 in Rhythm Heaven Fever.

    Trivia

    • In Rhythm Tengoku Gold Cast, the Moai are shown with the name モアイコ (Moaiko?), which is the name of the female Moai. In the English version of Rhythm Heaven, the name appears to have been misinterpreted as モアイ子 (Moaiko?, Moai Child), rendering them as Moai Kids.

Originally, the game had a king that would be sitting on the ground with his head in his hands, and a messenger standing behind him would hold the king's mouth and make him speak in turn. But one day, it was suddenly replaced with a moai (laughs). So, in order to give the feeling of having a conversation in one word, Moaio says "Ooh-ah" with "Ooh-ah" being shortened to "Wa", and Moaiko said "Roo-ah" and "Rah".
