In the game you play as the students of a kappa, who pass the stone ball from one to another by punching and breathing fire at it until it breaks.
In this game, the two players control the students of a kappa, who are learning the ancient art of Kung Fu Ball. This involves them passing a stone ball from one to the other while balancing on bamboo sticks in the middle of a pool. The longer they keep up the act, the more people join to watch.

There are four different cues to watch out for, though since this is a keep-the-rhythm type stage, you'll only hear two. First off, to stay in the game, Players 1 and 2 press A to kick the ball betweeneach other at regular intervals. The two kung fu kids will occasionally jump towards each other, in which the players press A in double time, as the kids are now closer to each other.
The kappa begins the game with the kappa throwing the ball from the pool either at the boy (controlled by P1) or the girl (controlled by P2). They must kick the ball between each other at regular intervals. The students may jump towards the inner bamboo, where they must punch the ball at a faster pace as they are closer to each other.

You'll notice a little kappa in the water as well. If he says, "Heat Fu," then two beats after he says it, both players must press A and B together to breathe fire and keep the ball in the air. Heat Fu will also crack the ball a little bit. (More on that later.) The other cue is "Great Bird Claw Spike Pow." One of the kids will leap up right behind the ball. That player must press A as soon as the kappa begins saying "Spike" to spike the ball towards the other player, who must then press A at "Pow" to deflect it and keep the game going.
The kappa sometimes gives cues, one of which is for the Heat Fu technique. After saying "Heat Fu", the ball goes in the middle, where the two students must breathe fire on it. The other cue is the secret Great Bird Claw Spike. After saying "Great bird...", one of the kids leaps up and must hit the ball on "Spike", and the other must block it on "Pow!"

You'll also see the ball crack with each Heat Fu. While you won't see it here, if the ball fully cracks open, inside will be either an extra chance or a bunch of fish points (which can be seen in the form of Japanese coins, a heart, fish or cucumbers). Which is more valuable depends on how long you expect to last before you lose. The big bronze ball, seen at the start, cracks open to reveal a smaller silver ball, and inside that is a still smaller gold ball. If you break that one, the kappa will provide another big ball, and the cycle starts over, though with a faster tempo. If you miss the stone ball during the game, you will lose one life. It's game over when you lose all your lives.
As the game progresses, the ball gets cracked and eventually splits, revealing a smaller ball in it. The first ball is bronze and large, the second is silver and middle sizes, while the last one is gold and small. The ball splits on pre-determined spots in the song, with each split taking longer than the last during the current round. The players are given three lives to start, and missing once causes the song to start over, but the size of the ball is carried over. Breaking the gold ball releases a bunch of cucumbers, fish, or koban, each worth more points than the last. Every two rounds instead release a heart, which restores one life up to five. Each round alters the tempo, and later on it may change drastically even during the song. The sky gets progressively redder as the game goes on, implying the passage of time.

*Perfect!/Ace!: The ball is passed to another kid or it's been fired up with Heat Fu cue causing it to crack, releasing fish making a kappa happy.

* The boy looks a lot like Young Cricket from WarioWare, which is created by Nintendo SPD.
*The boy resembles Young Cricket from the WarioWare Series.
**In the WarioWare Gold PV of Young Cricket and Master Mantis, the boy turns out to be him when he was little.
*Inputting the code word SPIKE in Police Call gives the player a tip about there being a code word in this game (the word is SEESAW: It appears a set of rickshaws in the background later on in the game). The code word can be put into Police Call for an easter egg.
* If the word SPIKE is put into the Police Call phone, a secret word will be activated for this game (the word is SEESAW, which can be seen on a truck in the background). The codeword can be put into the phone to unlock secret audio.
*The cucumbers and fish released after smashing the ball are references to the folklore behind the Kappa, who are said to enjoy eating cucumbers and fish.
* The fish and cucumber points are references to the Kappa which can be seen serving the ball at the start of a game. Kappas, in folklore, are said to enjoy both fish and cucumbers to eat.
Unused
* There are two unused sprites; one resembles a poorly drawn version of the kappa, while the other is supposed to be an old man holding a staff and riding a cloud.
