Backstory

Baxter & Forthington like they play badminton while piloting their planes. They fly over a desert oasis, and soon after, high above the Rhythm Islands. In the latter location, Forthington tells Baxter about a new doughnut shop that opened up recently, where one can get "a doughnut covered in marshmallows, candy, and tiny little doughnuts". The two start arguing over it, with Baxter throwing an insult. Forthington replies with another insult, and thwacks a birdie at Baxter. The two exchange more insults and rallies for over 40 minutes[1], after which they get tired, and agree to go to the doughnut shop after all, making surprisingly doughnut-shaped vapor trails as they fly off[2].

They appear in Remix 3 in Rhythm Heaven Fever, wearing chef hats and using spatulas, piloting planes shaped like cars, and in Remix 8 and Remix 10 with no special appearance. In Honeybee Remix they wear bee-themed hats, flying in bee-themed planes through a honey-themed land.

Trivia

  • The names Baxter & Forthington are a pun on "back and forth", referencing how the birdie is hit back and forth. Their Japanese and UK English names, Quick & Slow, may be a reference to the two rhythms in which the birdie is hit, as it's usually a quick rhythm, and sometimes changes to a slow rhythm.
  • Forthington has a resemblance to Spitz from the WarioWare series.
