The Rhythm Heaven (リズム天国?, Rhythm Tengoku) series holds all of the Rhythm Heaven games. There are currently a total of four released games, with one port and one upcoming title.
Conception
- Main article: Rhythm Tengoku/Development
In 2004, Tsunku♂ brought in a proposal and conception for what would eventually become Rhythm Tengoku. He was influenced by his dissatisfaction with "sound games" which involved pressing buttons at specific times but not actual rhythm. He initially envisioned it as potentially being early childhood software to hone in the rhythmic sense of Japanese people, or rhythm training software for karaoke lovers. The game proved to be very popular in Japan, and the sequel, Rhythm Heaven, would bring the series internationally.
Rhythm Tengoku
Rhythm Tengoku (リズム天国?, Rhythm Tengoku) is the first game in the series released for the Game Boy Advance on August 3, 2006 in Japan, and also the last game Nintendo had developed for the Game Boy Advance. This is the first installment of the series.
An arcade version was co-developed with SEGA and released on September 20, 2007 in Japan.
The player uses Ⓐ, Ⓑ and sometimes ✚ to control various characters, from a clapping trio to a space batter.

Series on hiatus
On August 17, 2017, a rumor started that the series no longer had a future[1]. In an interview with Eurogamer on August 24, 2017, series co-producer Yoshio Sakamoto confirmed that the series is not over, and the possibility for a new entry was always open[2]. In the following years, series producer Tsunku♂ has also expressed interest in developing a new game. On May 7, 2019, he retweeted an article about the game, asking fans what they thought was revolutionary about the series[3]. Later on April 9, 2020, he replied to a post regarding his interest in continuing the series, expressing ideas for what features a title on Nintendo Switch could have[4]. On July 31, 2020, he tweeted in celebration of the fifth anniversary of Rhythm Heaven Megamix, reaffirming a desire for a Switch title[5], and on August 3, 2021, he posted about the 15th anniversary of the series, expressing his desire to make a new game[6]. On June 16, 2022, he retweeted a fan request for a new title on Switch[7]. On August 3, 2023, he posted about the 17th anniversary of the series, showing appreciation for fan-made animations based on it, and sharing one that was made for Rhythm Tengoku Gold's 15th anniversary[8]. On April 6, 2024, Tsunku♂'s involvement as producer on the Rhythm Heaven Series was mentioned among his works during the 2024 Kindai University Entrance Ceremony[9]. Despite all this, there was no information regarding a new title in the series being developed for a long time[10].
Rhythm Heaven Groove
Rhythm Heaven Groove (リズム天国 ミラクルスターズ?, Rhythm Tengoku: Miracle Stars)[11], also known as Rhythm Paradise Groove[12] in Europe, is the upcoming fifth game in the series, set to release for the Nintendo Switch in 2026.
