Unused Content
The tilemap for the background in all three versions of Blue Birds contains several unused elements:
- A crudely drawn bird.
- Tiles depicting a straight line, possibly intended to be a fence.
- Mountains, as well as tiles resembling dirt and clouds.
- In Blue Birds 2, these mountain tiles are repurposed and used in the background, albeit with a cloud layer drawn behind them.
- An unused copy of the platform Captain Blue Bird stands on. The one used in the game is part of the captain's sprite.
- A tank in the distance, along with a defined horizon. The used background is a simple gradient with no clear seperation between the sky and the ground.
In all versions of Blue Birds, Captain Blue Bird's glasses are a separate sprite from his face, which obscure a pair of pointed closed eyes.
The Remix 2 version has the Japanese character "完" (Complete?) in the place of "To be continued.", drawn differently to the one used in Blue Birds 2. This graphic was redrawn and used in Rhythm Tengoku: The Best+, as Blue Birds 2 is not present in that game.
In both Blue Birds and Blue Birds 2, Captain Blue Bird is moved offscreen just before the flashbacks appear. There is an unused function to have him come back in afterwards.
Regional Differences
The animation used when the player stretches too early or too late is altered in non-Japanese versions of Rhythm Heaven. The original animation is used in all versions of Rhythm Heaven Megamix.

In Remix 2, the birds' beaks use a different outline color to the rest of the outlines. In Rhythm Tengoku Gold, this color is identical to the actual outline color. In the internation versions, this color is overwritten with a dark orange color, used for the new miss animation's back wing. Due to an oversight, this makes the inside outline of their beaks the same orange color, making them almost indistinguishable. The sprites for the old miss animation, which go unused here, are also affected by this.
Rhythm Heaven Megamix

Unused Content
In Rhythm Heaven, Captain Blue Bird has a yellow music note on his hat, which is a separate sprite from the captain's. This is done so that it would not get flipped while playing in Lefty mode. The sprite for the note still exists in Rhythm Heaven Megamix, but goes unused.
