"When they’re young, these rats train every night with an antique traffic light for survival (Cheese)." |
The rats (ねずみ?, Nezumi) are three little rodents who appear in Rat Race in Rhythm Tengoku and Rhythm Heaven Megamix. Together, they sneak across a kitchen table to hide from a cat named Ms. Whiskers[1] (ネコ?, Neko).
The player controls a white rat who runs between the two brown rats.
Story
The rats are sneaky, but they also bravely venture out to the "Ultra Dangerous Zone" where Ms. Whiskers usually is. They're risking life and limb to find food for their family[2]. The stoplight they use is an antique, used to train young rats for many generations[3]. The rats sometimes appear in the photos taken by T.J. Snapper in Freeze Frame. Ms. Whiskers sometimes peers through the window in Wake-Up Caller in Rhythm Heaven Fever.

Trivia
- During gameplay, if the player stops in such a way that a rat isn't covered up by dishes, those rats will cower in fear, and sweat profusely. Even if the player gets up to move behind cover, Ms. Whiskers will never attack.
- Additionally, the epilogue shows different outcomes regarding how much cheese the rats managed to take back. During gameplay, the rats always reach the cheese no matter how poorly the player performed. It is possible the player's performance determines how well the rats are able to bring the cheese back to their families.
