The Blue Birds (ブルーバーズ?, Burūbāzu) follow the commands of Captain Blue Bird (ブルーバーズ隊長?, Burūbāzu Taichō) in the Rhythm Game Blue Birds in Rhythm Heaven and Rhythm Heaven Megamix.
Notably, Captain Blue Bird is also known to be the Rhythm League Advisor (謎のリズム組織 特別顧問?, Nazo no Rhythm Soshiki Tokubetsu Komon), who writes a letter to the player, congratulating them for perfecting Remix 10.
Story
The three birds are part of the Blue Bird Brigade, and they take orders from Captain Blue Bird. These orders involve pecking their beaks, stretching out their necks, and many other activities.
The playable bird keeps a Diary.
On April 16, the playable bird joins the Blue Bird Brigade, and their first order is basic training. The birds are shown working out to get in shape.
On April 20, the birds have to tug a heavy tank while the captain rides on it, yelling at them along the way. The playable bird complains about this training being anything but basic.
On May 2, "basic training" continues with the birds flying in pedal-powered airplanes. The playable bird complains that they are forced to do this instead of using their wings.
On May 10, the birds have parachute training. The playable bird further complains about not being allowed to use their wings.
On May 14, the birds get tired and wander around. They accidentally fall off a cliff, and climb back up, having forgotten they have wings. They find the sunset to be worthwhile.
The Rhythm Game Blue Birds takes place here, where the birds are shown pecking their beaks and stretching out their necks. All of the previous events are shown as flashbacks during the game.
On May 24, the birds are informed they will learn on the next day where they will be assigned to, with their captain saying it's "somewhere fun".
In Blue Birds 2, the birds are stationed in a snowy mountainous region. There are more scenes shown as flashbacks, depicting the events up until the game. The birds are shown skiing down a hill, spying on Karate Joe during his training, fishing with a net, having a rest in sleeping bags, pecking their beaks into ice and causing a giant eruption of ice cold water, and relaxing with their captain in a hot spring. The eruption scene also shows Stomp Farmer being able to see them in the distance, implying this location may be close by to the Stomp and Chomp Agriculture Co.
In Remix 2, the Blue Birds and their captain are seen following their usual orders on a tropical island. They can be seen in the audience in Battle of the Bands. Calling the number (555) PECK-YES on the Phone plays sound effects of the Blue Birds and their captain set to a snare drum. Six blue birds following the captain occasionally appear in Air Rally, Air Rally 2, and some Remixes involving the latter, replacing the geese in the background. One bird also appears in the Superb epilogue to these games, where they have a close encounter with the planes. The birds and their captain can also be seen in the OK epilogue to Remix 6 in Rhythm Heaven Fever. In Munchy Monk, they can be seen outside the window. Silhouettes of the Blue Birds appear in the background in Hi-Hat while playing the 4-beat song.

Trivia
- The relationshiop between the Blue Birds and Captain Blue Bird is similar to that of the Squadmates and Sarge from Marching Orders and Captain Tuck and the Flippers from Flipper-Flop. They are also similar in that the games are military themed, and the playable Blue Bird is shown keeping a diary, similar to the Marcher Activity Log and Expedition Journal, down to the same dates.
- In Minna no Rhythm Tengoku, Beat the Beat: Rhythm Paradise and Rhythm World Wii, it is mentioned during a bird-watching tour focused on The Huebirds of Happiness, that the tour right after would look at the Blue Birds[1]. An altogether different species, the Eloquent Tapir, is the target of said tour in Rhythm Heaven Fever instead[2].
- While Captain Blue Bird often comes off as easy to anger, he is actually moved to tears due to the Blue Birds' hard work and dedication, which he hides behind his sunglasses[3].
- In Rhythm Heaven, Captain Blue Bird has a yellow music note on his hat, but this detail is missing in the flashbacks during Blue Birds and on the Try Again epilogue, and is absent in Rhythm Heaven Megamix as a whole (although it does exist unused in that game).
- When playing in Lefty mode, the music note still faces the proper way while the captain himself faces the opposite direction. In his appearance in Battle of the Bands, he faces to the left in Righty mode, with the music note facing the wrong way. When playing Lefty mode, he is facing to the right in this appearance, with the music note facing the proper way.
