Gameplay
The player controls a mysterious little guy named Mr. Upbeat, who must step over a metronome needle to the offbeat of the song. As the game starts, a voice counts off a rhythm for eight beats. After this, the needle begins to swing at Mr. Upbeat. To dodge it, the player needs to hop over the needle, which happens on the offbeats. To assist the player, the light on Mr. Upbeat's head flashes on the offbeat. After 16 steps, the needle stops. The player receives a point, Mr. Upbeat comments on the player's ability, and the game repeats at a higher tempo.

In Rhythm Tengoku, it is unlocked when the player has one Medal and has cleared Remix 1. In Rhythm Heaven Fever, it is unlocked when the player has three Medals.
In Rhythm Heaven Fever, the game was given a Practice section, in which the player must hop over the needle for 16 steps, and the game fades out and fades back in if they miss. They only need to do one set to clear it. In the real game, each step gives a point instead of one point for every 16 steps. In addition, the tempo change now happens every 32 steps rather than every 16.
Description
As the game starts, a voice will count off a rhythm for eight beats. After this, a pendulum will begin to swing at the player. To dodge the pendulum, the player need to make Mr. Upbeat "step" as the pendulum nears his feet. To assist the player, the light on Mr. Upbeat's head will flash on each correct beat.
Every 16 successful steps, the pendulum will temporarily stop. During this time, the player will receive one point, and a new tempo will be counted.
Rhythm Heaven Fever
The game remains mostly the same. However, there are minor differences with scoring, and other added features.

The most notable change is in the scoring: the player receives one point for every step rather than every set. In addition, the beat will restart every 32 steps, not every 16.

Every tempo change, Mr. Upbeat will say something to you. At first, he is congratulating you for doing well, but as the game gets faster, he starts wondering how you're able to do this. Eventually, he starts begging you to stop for the sake of his aching feet.

Mr. Upbeat also appears in the Endless Remix.
Hit or Miss
*Hit: Mr. Upbeat will step over the needle, and play will continue.
*Barely: N/A
*Miss: Mr. Upbeat will let out a cry and land on his rear end. One miss ends the game.

Trivia
Trivia
* Mr. Upbeat appears in the American / European versions of Rhythm Heaven Fever, but it does not appear in the Japanese version. It was added in by the localization team as a substitute for Manzai Birds, which was deemed too difficult to localize a game based mostly on Japanese culture.
*In Rhythm Tengoku, Mr. Upbeat has the word ウラ written above him. This is removed in Rhythm Heaven Fever.
*In Rhythm Heaven Fever, once the player reaches 130 points (and every so often after that), Mr. Upbeat's light will grow over the next few steps, display a series of letters, and then go back to normal. The letters that pop up spell MATCH, which can be inserted into the Police Call Rhythm Toy.
*This is the only Endless Game in Rhythm Tengoku to acknowledge when the player achieves a High Score.
**The High Score jingle in Rhythm Heaven Fever is completely different, now being an altered version of the Game Over jingle.
*Mr. Upbeat does not appear in Minna no Rhythm Tengoku. The game Manzai was substituted with Mr. Upbeat due to the Japanese-dialogue focused nature of the game.
**Manzai was the 4th game in Minna no Rhythm Tengoku, while Mr. Upbeat is the 1st in other regions. This change caused the rest of the Endless Games to be moved around in other regions, and their Medal requirements to be adjusted.
**The game also takes Manzai's place in Endless Remix.
**The High Score jingle takes the place of Manzai's theme in the Music Corner.
*Inputting the code word POSITIVE in Police Call gives the player a tip about there being a code word in this game (the word is MATCH: every 130 steps Mr. Upbeat's antenna grows larger and displays the word one letter at a time, then returns to normal). The code word can be put into Police Call for an easter egg.
*The UK English spelling of Mr Upbeat in Beat the Beat: Rhythm Paradise makes this game and the Remixes the only games whose names differ across the two English versions.
