Artwork from Rhythm Heaven Megamix
Mini Chounin (ミニ町人?, Mini Townsfolk) are miniature people who wear Japanese clothes. They made appear in the minigame Power Calligraphy in Rhythm Tengoku, Rhythm Heaven Fever and Rhythm Heaven Megamix.
Backstory
While the player is writing Japanese calligraphy, these fairy tale people come out of nowhere. They’re not the steadiest people, and if the writing gets messed up, they’ll fall over in disappointment. They bow when the face at the end is shown, as if worshiping it.[1]

Trivia
Mini Chounin are always present offscreen whenever Power Calligraphy is played, even if they ultimately never appear. If the player messes up in Rhythm Heaven Fever and Rhythm Heaven Megamix, a few pixels of one of the fallen townsfolk can be spotted on the top of the screen, which is easier to see in the latter game.
